Minneapolis, MN (October 23, 2013) – One Heartland, (oneheartland.org) which began in 1993 as a single camp for children facing HIV/AIDS, will celebrate its 20th anniversary at 6 p.m., Dec. 11, 2013, at Aria in Minneapolis.
More than noting the two-decade milestone, the evening’s celebration will center around the organization’s ongoing expansion in serving more children, youth and families in need. This year, more than 600 campers facing challenges such as homelessness, HIV/AIDS, type 2 diabetes, and those identifying as LGBTQ, enjoyed weeklong camp experiences and peer support. Camps are held at the One Heartland center in Willow River, MN, as well as in California, New York and Texas. More than 80 percent of One Heartland campers and families live below the poverty level and are only able to attend camp through donations from generous individuals and companies.
Honoring the ‘20 for 20’
“Our campers and volunteers consider One Heartland to be an extended family,” says Patrick Kinder, executive director, One Heartland. “And this year we’re calling the family home by honoring our 20 most influential supporters of our organization. We would not exist today without them.”
The December event includes dinner catered by CRAVE, and musical entertainment by Esera Tuaolo, Cece Peniston, Paris Bennett, Jamecia Bennett, Pipi, Rob Julien and OutLoud! Tickets are $150/general and $250/VIP, with a $25/ticket discount for purchases before Nov. 15. For more information, contact Alice at alicew@oneheartland.org or 612-246-3795.
